The Sanctuary

In the apse hangs a painting of "The Assumption of the Virgin into Heaven," brought from Spain by Bishop San Alberto. On the side walls are "The Transfiguration of the Lord" (a copy) and "The Apparition of Jesus, Mary and Joseph to Saint Teresa" (Cuzco, 1675 / 1726), owned by the Monasterio de San José of the Discalced Carmelite nuns of this city.

Near the ambos stand a beautiful Crucifix and a dressed image of "Our Lady of the Assumption," probably brought from Spain around 1790.

The "Canons' Choir Stalls," commissioned by Bishop San Alberto, and the carved wooden "Episcopal Chair," crowned by a mitre amid delicate Rococo ornamentation, date from the last years of the 18th century.
